David S. Pumpkins' Return to SNL

Tom Hanks' character David S. Pumpkins returned to Saturday Night Live this Halloween, as reported by Consequence. The character appeared in a haunted ride sketch during the show's cold open.
The sketch was reminiscent of David S. Pumpkins' two previous appearances on the show, but it was interrupted by James Austin Johnson's portrayal of Donald Trump. Trump took over the rest of the sketch, overshadowing Pumpkins' return.
The interruption was seen as frustrating by some, with Trump's presence feeling like an unwelcome intrusion into the sketch. However, it may have also been a commentary on Trump's pervasive presence in American culture.
The timing of the sketch is notable, given that Election Day is nearing. As Consequence notes, the results of the election could signal a shift in Trump's cultural relevance. For music and comedy fans, this could mean a welcome change in the cultural landscape.
