My Chemical Romance has released a new animated short film, "Prelude to the End", in collaboration with visual artist Lauren Tsai. The film features a voice cast including Phoebe Bridgers, Billie Eilish, Hideo Kojima, and actor John C. McGinley.
The story follows Astrid, a girl studying at a boarding school in New England overrun with trash, as she enters a new realm of old ideas that come to life after falling down the school's garbage chute. Bridgers voices Astrid's sister, while Eilish lends her vocals to Astrid's close friend.
The film includes a live recording of Pascal Dusapin's Flying River, Violin Concerto, performed by Utopia Orchestra and conducted by Giuseppe Mengoli. My Chemical Romance will screen the film at their forthcoming Hollywood Bowl shows on October 30 and 31, as part of their ongoing tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Black Parade.
These shows mark the final two nights of the band's five-night residency at the Los Angeles venue. The tour kicked off last year and also included a performance at the festival When We Were Young in 2024. This new release matters to listeners because it showcases My Chemical Romance's continued creativity and experimentation with different art forms.
