Ben Gillies Launches New Band The Kiln

Source: Billboard · October 26, 2026

Silverchair drummer Ben Gillies has formed a new band, The Kiln, with Grammy-winning producer Joseph Prielozny, as reported by Billboard. The duo is set to release their debut album in 2027.

To coincide with the announcement, Gillies auctioned one of four test pressings of the album for charity, with half the winning bid going to Support Act, an Australian charity that provides crisis relief and mental health support to musicians and crew.

Gillies co-founded Silverchair in Newcastle, New South Wales, in 1992, and the band went on to achieve significant success, including five number one albums in Australia and 21 ARIA Awards. The Kiln's sound is still under wraps, but their website mentions songwriting, experimentation, and storytelling as key elements of the project.

The album's first vinyl run will be limited to 250 copies, and bidding for the signed test pressing closed on October 31 via the band's website. This new project marks an exciting development for Gillies and Prielozny, and fans can look forward to hearing their debut album in 2027.
